Welcome to the Plough and Harrow public house situated in Monknash in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.

It is like stepping back in time when you visit The Plough and Harrow “A Jewel in The Vale of Glamorgan”, “How can you be so close to the modern world and yet seem so far away”.  It has hardly changed in the many hundreds of years that it has been standing with most of its original features remaining including the ceiling support beams hauled from the beach from wrecked ships. You regularly here gasps as people enter for the first time as people take a step through the door into a “Proper pub with real ale, real food and real people”. With such a diverse cross section of clientèle farm labourers can be sharing a table with Rock and pop stars, actors, TV presenters and professional sports stars all happily sharing stories or jokes amongst themselves, The Plough doesn`t do ”Celebrity”, come in have your ale and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the pub.

The Plough has had a reputation for a warm welcoming atmosphere, the finest real ales and excellent freshly-cooked food going back decades and is the stand out pub in the area. People visit the pub from all parts of the world to see its charm so if you think that you have entered another country when you step inside don`t be alarmed it is the way it is at The Plough.

The pub is also home to Wick RFC who having moved up a league this year are developing into a very competent team and it is good to see the local young men competing at a level of rugby above the level a very small village should be playing at.

The pub itself is one of if not the only one in the area that is privately owned and is a Freehouse so the customers can help to decide what beer and food they would like to have..It is now back being run by the owners David and Debbie Woodman and their manager Paula Jones after leasing the pub out for three years to concentrate on other business interests. During their previous time running the pub they scooped more awards than any other previous landlords as they try to set the standard that others do not strive to achieve and the personal touch that brewery chains do not possess helps to give it that advantage, unhappy customers are not going to return. Their hard work since their return is now starting to show and the awards are again starting to come in with customers saying that they notice the difference already.

The Ploughs attraction is based upon the charm of the building itself which dates back to the twelfth century and its location, surrounded by beautiful countryside in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan . Where else would anyone want to spend a long hot summer day but in the garden of the Plough? Or a cold winter night in front of one of the two roaring log fires? Try not to forget that all pubs need your support throughout the year not just on sunny summer days so in winter put those coats and gloves on and support your local or it will not be there when you want it to be.

With an ever-changing menu of both food and ales theres always a reason to visit the the Plough whether you’ve never been to us before or you’re a seasoned veteran. The Plough is never one of those places where you’ve seen it all – As Alistair Sawday puts it so well – “The kind of pub you wish was your local”.
